Don’t be shocked. We know it has been a long time since we last posted on the blog. Winter is mostly behind us now and the thought of open water fishing at Stormer Lake Lodge is starting to get the hook setting juices flowing.
We are winding up our sport show circuit by attending the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sport Show this coming Wednesday March 2nd at the State Fair grounds. The show runs from Wednesday thru Sunday. Come out and see us at our booth and lets talk fishing and hunting. We also want to thank all of our guests and friends that have stopped out to the sport shows we have already attended. It is great seeing everyone and we look forward to hearing about the “catching” stories from this coming summer.
We will start to write more blog posts as the season draws closer to let everyone know of any new issues or changes regarding Ontario in general or at Stormer Lake Lodge. The biggest change so far has been the addition of Spring Bear hunting in some areas of Ontario. We are still acquiring information from the Ministry as to all of the details to see how it could impact Stormer Lake Lodge. At this time, we will not be offering a Spring Bear hunt at Stormer.
However, coinciding with the news of the addition of a Spring Bear hunt, Stormer IS going to have Fall Bear hunts in 2016 and we could not be more excited. Stormer has not Bear hunted in a few years so we know the quality and quantity of Bear in our area is nothing short of incredible. We are the only lodge to hunt Bear in a 350 square kilometer geographical area which allows us to promote quality Bear hunting and to be considered a World Class hunting destination. We are also excited to announce that we will be filming a Bear hunt with the All Canada Show crew to be used as a TV promotion and directly on the 2017 sport show circuit.
Another important topic or question we get asked about quite often is regarding any changes when crossing the border into Canada. As of this writing, we have not heard about any changes or stipulations to the border crossing that stands out. We believe there is still a ban on poultry but will confirm this as the season draws closer. We will post on the blog of any changes we hear about from the Ministry of Canada.

That is all for now. We hope you will comment on this blog if you have any questions or just to hear about your Stormer past experiences. Lets talk fishing and hunting.

Dave & Linda

  1. Greetings Dave and Linda,

I find that my thoughts keep drifting back to the upcoming fishing season at Stormer lake Lodge. This winter has been “interesting” in north east Wisconsin. The weather hasn’t been cold enough to develop good ice for fishing. On the other hand, it hasn’t been warm enough to be pleasant. We just cancelled our annual ice fishing trip to Thunder Bay, Ontario as the ice there is too unpredictable.

Shannon and I had tremendous success for walleyes pulling spinner rigs during our trip to the Lodge last July. I researched making spinner rigs this winter, as I was looking for some winter fishing-related projects. The number of combinations of components (e.g. blades, hooks, beads, bodies, etc.)for spinner rigs seems endless. The walleyes in Kirkness and Stormer Lakes are in BIG trouble and they don’t even know it!

Shannon and I are very much looking forward to our upcoming trip to Stormer Lake Lodge. We look forward to seeing you folks, as well as Kenny, Dawn and Lorraine. Kenny and I will need to come up with another good plan to get Lorraine to make another batch of sticky buns. It took some effort to come up with last year’s plan, but the sticky buns made the effort worthwhile.

As I am typing this, I relived many memories from last summer’s splendid shore lunches. I could see, hear and smell the walleye fillets frying while sitting in our kitchen with my eyes closed. The taste of the fish is just so special. It’s probably best that I stop typing now and go make some lunch. I just made myself hungry.

Shannon and I look forward to seeing many of our longtime friends soon, and making some new friends. We will be together again before we know it.
